Senior BJP leader M. M. Joshi on Friday launched a sharp attack on home minister P. Chidambaram, demanding his removal from the Union cabinet.”When he was finance minister, there were scams such as the 2G spectrum allotment. When he became home minister, there was a goof-up in the terror list sent to Pakistan. Moreover, his election has been termed as fraudulent, though the Election Commission will decide on that issue,” Joshi said.Joshi also made an oblique reference to Chidambaram, when the latter was the finance minister, for pushing for hike in petrol prices that was not required. The veteran BJP leader, referring to the recent CAG report on the petroleum ministry, asked if the petrol hike was done to effect price rise that would have benefited a select few.”The government itself is promoting corruption… a person like him is not fit to be a minister. I strongly demand his resignation,” Joshi said The home minister has clearly lost the support he had in the saffron party for his tough stand against the Maoists. A few days ago party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar had demanded the home minister’s resignation following media reports on purported conversation between corporate lobbyist Nira Radia and jailed former telecom minister A. Raja about Chidambaram. The chorus against the lawyer-turned-politician went a notch higher when Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, in her first press conference in the Capital after thumping election result, demanded Chidambaram’s resignation for securing a Lok Sabha win through fraudulent means.advertisementFor more news on India, click here. For more news on Business, click here. For more news on Movies, click here. For more news on Sports, click here.
