Mad Max trailer and screenshots show off a glimpse of gameplay

first_imgThe Mad Max films cause a bit of confusion. When you think of “the first” Mad Max, you’re generally thinking of the second one, The Road Warrior. That’s the movie with the post-apocalyptic wasteland; the original isn’t much like Road Warrior or Beyond Thunderdome. The only thing we really knew about the new Mad Max game, which was shown off back during Sony’s E3 keynote, is that it seems to ignore the first entry in the film franchise, and opts for the post-apocalyptic wasteland theme. We also know that the developers, Avalanche, stated that Max will be portrayed with an Australian accent. Now, with the release of a new trailer, we finally get a glimpse of the game’s actual gameplay — albeit, just a glimpse. The first half of the trailer is basically setting up the bleak vibe and desert visuals, then finally toward the end of the trailer we get to see what appears to be actual gameplay. Though the scenes are quick, we see flashes of vehicular combat, various head-related trauma induced through melee moves, explosions, mutants, and hand cannons. Yes, it’s Mad Max, even though Mel Gibson isn’t reprising the role of the titular Australian. The game is slated to release for everything it possibly can — PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows. There is no clear release date as of yet and not much in the way of available gameplay demonstrations, so expecting it sometime next year would be safe bet. Until then, go back and watch the original 1979 film, and be surprised by how different it is from the rest of the series.
