waste The initiative is still in the experimental stage and from next week a truck will start collecting waste from several housing societies and hotels producing a large amount of waste Named MobiTrash the truck has been designed by a start-up company and the processing plant has been installed in the truck “The plant in the truck can process around three tonnes a day A few housing societies and hotels have expressed interest We will conduct free trials for them within a few days” said Saurabh Shah member of MobiTrash team created by a company Excel Shah added that they charge every household a nominal monthly fee of Rs 200 The mobile processing plant only accepts wet waste and the compost generated is either given back to the user or sold to others After collecting the waste the processing plant gives it a primary treatment which yields raw compost Shah said The team has set up another plant in Suraksha Garden in Colaba where the second round of processing is done “We had launched the service in Pune in January and we are currently processing the waste of 25 users including housing societies and corporate firms About a month ago we started the service in Surat and we hope to get a good response from Mumbai as well” said Shah Apart from four housing societies in Cuffe Parade and Marine Lines the company will conduct free trials for three Taj Hotels and the
