WNB names boxing team for PNG Games

first_imgHead coach Leo Spinks Ruru confirmed both men and women’s divisions who will be competing in the Light Fly Weight, Bantam, Feather Weight, Light Weight, Light Welter, Middle Weight, Light Heavy Weight, and Heavy Weight categories.The Provincial Team over the past weeks had boxing clubs and their boxers contesting in those categories hosted at the Independence Park in Kimbe.The local boxing clubs of Mai, Tavur, Goma, Desert, Kassia Hornets, Talakom and Gila thrilled boxing fans with their display of skills over the past weekends.Female boxers selected to represent the boxing team are: Sia Stanley, Theresia Banatsi, Franklyn Aitam, Lisa Wura, Tina Tangole, Judith Bart, Grace Jimbira, Josepha Malala, Samantha Bart and Pauline Jimbira. The reserves are Sharon David and Gail Bakini. Seven of the boxers were selected from Tavur, while the other two are Goma and one each from Desert and Mai clubs.Male boxers selected are: Otto Rave, Bito Komboli, Zephaniah Ruru, Darren Suluma, Noel Spinks Aumi, Isidor Talingapua, Jones Madi, Nigel Rame, Colentine Valio, Israel Mautu and one reserve, Albert Ragi. Kassia Hornets had 4 of their boxers selected, Tavur had three boxers, Gila, Talakom and Mai each had one each of their boxers selected.The boxing team from WNB have also named their final management team for this year’s 7th BSP PNG Games with the head coach as Leo Spinks Ruru, trainer – Nick Tupi while the men’s team manager is Patrick Loku and Francesca Sogen as the women’s team manageress. Their technical officer is Steven Meta.The selected boxers of 10 men and 10 women will also be representing Team WNB in the National Boxing Championships in Aitape this September as their lead-up to the BSP PNG Games.They are currently seeking financial assistance to secure travel, accommodation and registration fees for the National Boxing Championships. All WNB citizens are asked to support the current fundraising drives hosted by the team.last_img read more
